Mmmm, Giraffes

Well, June went by in a blur.

Gig calendar is cranked up.
Jazz jam at the local jazz society.

The pool is open, so I can walk to lap swim.

Happy (Belated) Pride month!

Sam Turtle is really feeling the warmth.

Farmers market booty.

Got through the vaccination list. Am ready to travel, medically speaking!

The new Dave Matthews Band album sounds pretty good.

Bunzilla

A small petting zoo at the farmers market.

And a delicious homemade scone for breakfast.

Rural Iowa sunset.

A friend and I went to the local zoo for a special morning event.
Breakfast with the Giraffe.
Actually, it was breakfast before the giraffe.
We were treated to a nice breakfast spread before being give an behind the scenes
tour of the giraffe enclosure.
This is Kenya, a reticulated giraffe.

Bonus tortoise!

The "horns" on a giraffe's head are really ossicones.
They are fused to the giraffe's skull and are made up of bone.
Unlike horns, which are hollow or antlers, which are shed each year.
Ossicones are permanent parts of their skulls.
They are thought to be used when fighting other giraffes,
(and are found on male and female giraffes)
or for thermoregulation.

Braved the rainy day and saw the parents for Father's Day.

A nice view of the River.

A mini photo shoot with my little grey parrot.

When the schedule gets busy, I tend to survive on extra caffeine sources,
Red Bull, usually. My go-to is the sugar-free kind, but I like to try the
different flavors. This strawberry-apricot is quite tasty!

Sitting in for the dance at Oxford Junction.
Always a good time. I've played with the band enough times
to, more or less, know what's going on and how things run.

Can't have a dance without waltzes and polkas!

And was treated to a stunning sky at sundown.
