IndyRawk Part 4

Welcome to the final installment of the

IndyRawk Road Trip!

We hit the beach!
Yeah, it was a lakeshore beach, but still a beach.

Lake Michigan says hello!

Took a hike through the woods of Indiana Dunes State Park

You can hear the lake before you get to it,
a lot like getting close the ocean.
You hear it before you see it.

I never get tired of watching waves crest and crash into the shore.
It's mesmerizing.

It was cold. Glad I had a jacket.

We took another trail that had a gazillion stairs to the summit
of Mt. Tom. My bum knee held out pretty well for the climb.

What goes up must go down.

Another trail that lead to the shore.
And to something called the Devil's Slide.
Which, after looking it up, is the giant sandy dune that leads onto the beach.

A bad place to get caught. The river (stream?) empties into the Lake, creating
a lot of turbulence. Even on a quiet day like the one we visited it didn't look
like a great place to try to swim.
You can drown in your cereal bowl, after all, so you'd be wise to use some caution.

After a pleasant, albeit cold, morning walk around the dunes and the beach, we
climbed into the Silver Bubble and drove ourselves back to the Quad Cities.

It was a nice weekend to get out of town, even with the rain.
I learned about racing cars and dunes and the history of rock music.
I paid homage to my musical heroes and got sand in my socks
 and got lots of exercise.

And road trips don't get much better than that.
