Take some time to smell the flowers

Evanescent Field
at the Figge Museum

LEDs installed and programmed to create different and never repeating
light patterns on the building.
Created by Leo Villareal for the 100-year anniversary of the Figge Art Museum.
I like it!

Hitting the dance floor stage.
Had them dancing all night.

As promised, here are the finished Lego flowers

I had a second kit too.

Cute little red roses.

The monthly jazz jam.
Had a pretty good crowd despite being on the Sunday after the usual second Sunday.

Here's lookin at you, bird.

what the duck?!

Road trip?

Got a new sweater.
I had been watching this cute Lucky Brand sweater roll through my newsfeed for
months. But it had a steep price point that I couldn't justify.
But patience and repeatedly telling the algorithm what you like will
sometimes reward you.

It hit the end-of-season clearance at a substantial discount, at a price I was
more willing to pay, and my size was still in stock.
It's soft and cozy and I love the stitched-in details.
Little lemons at the bottom and C'est la vie at the neckline.
Because life will sometimes give you lemons.

It is a mock turtleneck, which isn't always flattering on me, but I was
able to fold the collar down to get more of a crewneck, and was pretty
happy with how it looks.

Started a few new books.
I've heard of this book before and kept it on a mental list,
and then found it for a quarter at the library book sale.

An interesting look into how governments can be degraded and
broken down. We've been watching it happen firsthand for a while now.
It can happen here.

Two other books are for upcoming shows I'll be performing in.

The first is Fun Home, based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel,
which I also found a copy of at the library (to take a look at the source material).

The second is Hairspray, a show I'm pretty sure I've played before.
After twenty years of playing in pits, it can sometimes become a blur,
but I do remember playing this one for maybe a high school production.

Memorial Day weekend is now upon us, and I hadn't really
planned anything fun, which is probably a good thing, because
it turns out there are rehearsals I have to be at this weekend.
So, I dug into the projects list and started getting some things
done around the house.

Repotted a cactus plant, unplugged a drain, washed
lots of things, including the couch cover and mattress protector,
and broke out a new gallon of yellow paint to finish off the bathroom.

This wall has been grey since I finished the rest of the room
last fall. All the stuff on the wall was a bit overwhelming.
But, as I had time and paint, as soon as I started it came together,
and wasn't as annoying as I had initially thought it would be.

Looks nice. Will need some touch ups, but for the most part this room is finished.
Next stop, the bedroom.

Now entering my favourite time of the year. I love summertime.
Y'all can complain about heat and humidity all you want, but
for me, I'd rather be slightly warm than freezing.

Time to get outside more.
I've gotten most of the to-do list done for the weekend, so after
getting some sleep, and finished mowing the yard, I took myself out
to my favorite local park to walk some trails in the woods.

I'll probably work in some day trips over a few weekends, but my summer plans
are already mapped out. Necessary due to the year's budget restrictions, but
walking and hiking are usually free or low cost.

Took a trail I haven't walked before.
It was a great day for a walk in the woods.
I saw birds, some chunky squirrels, a chipmunk, and a dead mouse.
And, despite a lot of cars in the parking lot, I didn't really run into too many
other hikers, which is good for my misanthropic heart.

Just kidding. Mostly. haha

Get that Vitamin Green

The flowers in the meadow and the trails are starting to bloom.
Several of these white ones on the trailside, with purple varieties too.

These smell so nice.
Are they honeysuckle?
Made the whole trail smell wonderful.

The best long weekends are the ones with a good balance of productivity, laziness,
and lots of outdoor exercise.

This weekend I got all of that.
Watched some movies, got some yard work and house projects done,
and some much-needed legwork outside.

Have a rehearsal tonight, but plan to relax and take it easy this afternoon,
before I have to go back to being trapped at a desk at work.
