Fun Home in the Sun and Home

June has been busier than I expected it to be.
Thankful for a quiet weekend to pull myself together
before the schedule explodes again.

Is this really what you want your AI advertisement to look like?
It never gets the hands right.
And why is that guy sideways?

The bunny.

Hit the theatre hard this month.
Three week run of Alison Bechdel's Fun Home.
It grew on me. And we had a pretty good audience most nights.

One night, I came home to the neighbors watching a movie outside on
an inflatable screen. Pretty nifty. I think I saw an ad for it at Five Below.
Didn't stick around to figure out the movie they were watching.

The rose bush in the front yard is really taking charge.
Look at all of those blooms!
I snipped a few for a small bouquet inside.
Are they supposed to be trimmed? Like dead-heads snipped off?

The daisies I had forgotten I'd planted have also bloomed.
Love seeing all of the plant life thriving.

Speaking of plant life.

It showed up late. And in the middle of my lilies.
The pumpkin patch has returned.
Looks like just one plant this time, so maybe I can manage
the growth a bit better this year.

I'm not digging anything up, so they'd better get along.

A creeping, viney weed likes this corner too, so I'll be weeding
it constantly to keep it clean.

I learned that you can wash a rug in the bathtub with laundry soap and cold water.
Washes pretty well too.

However, the ding dang rug will take ages to dry out completely.
I left it outside in the sun, left it hanging in the bathroom,
and finally took it to the laundromat to take a spin in a dryer for 20 minutes.
After about a week it was finally dry, but had a bit of a musty smell.
So I let it sit outside in strong sunlight for an afternoon to kill of anything
moldy and the smell went away.
A process, for sure. But the white, fluffy rug is white and fluffy again!

Was treated to some impressive skies on a stormy evening.
Lost interwebs access for about two hours.
Always a bit nerve-wracking experiencing an internet outage for the first
time with a new provider. Didn't know what to expect, ya know?
Everything came back online after a short period, so life went on.

The gig calendar has cranked up.
In addition to the theater dates, UNRESOLVED played at a bar
in Aledo, Illinois for the Rhubarb Festival Festivities.
It went pretty well, the bar owners seemed pretty happy.
And I got sample some rhubarb strawberry beer from a local brewery.

Just chillin with the giant rhubarb on the edge of town.

Gettin Saxy.

This plaque caught my eye as I was walking in Downtown Moline
on the way to the theater. Interesting bit of local history.

Me and my clarinet.
Are the theater shots repetitive?
Well, that's how I felt, too. LOL

If you hard. Then you hard.

I was kindly gifted this tomato plant from a student who had too many.
As I will generally always accept orphan plants, I took it in and gave
it a bigger pot and a safe place to grow.
Cherry tomatoes, I think he said. Yum!
Got some blossoms already.

It's a black box theatre, which is traditionally a small, simple stage.
Perfect for one or two act plays and miniature musicals.
Appropriate for avant-garde and plays that don't require lots of scenery or props.

This is Alejandro Skellyton.
His plastic noggin is the only head worthy of any crown.
America will have no kings.
Or, at least, none I will bow down to.
No slaves, no masters.

Started another busy Saturday with a trip to the farmers market for more
fresh veggies.
Sipped on a delicious iced-coffee from a local Black-owned vendor,
ate tasty potato samosas from the local Indian restaurant, and bought
a basket full of veggies. The asparagus is tender and flavorful.
I shared the peppers and zucchini with Zuri and she approves.
I even gave the turtle a few bite-sized chunks of zucchini and they were gobbled up.

Local eggs, and a cinnamon roll from a lady who bakes them near here.
A tasty weekend treat.

Later that day, I had the honor of subbing in with Identity Crisis at
the beer tasting event at the East Village, the Village Hops.
Tasted some artisanal beers and ciders and generally had a grand time
with the band and a great audience who got out and danced the afternoon away.

The set up for a gig with this band.
Both saxes and a piccolo.

After this job, it was once again a return to the Moline theater for the final performance
of Fun Home. Show closes, returned the book, we got paid.
It was a great day of music, though.

The next day was Father's Day.
Momster and Daddio visited for the afternoon.
We had some lunch and then, because it was Dad's choice,
we found a nice spot on the Illinois side of the River to relax.

Momster and I took a walk while Dad watched the River from a bench.
The baby Canada geese are getting big.

A donation to the local food bank.
If you have enough, it's okay to share.
Always share food.

Can't stop. Won't stop.
After my parents went home, I got a few housekeeping things done, then
took myself to the Illinois side once again to watch the final
production of Oedipus Rex by Genesius Guild.
I didn't want to miss this show, and it was a good one.

Their shows are usually minimalistic, and this is one featured masks
for the main characters. Shown here is Oedipus.
I knew the broad strokes of this story, but not the details, so
this was a great way to expand my understanding of the play.
Plays are best experienced live.

After the reveal, the masks come off and the actors shine through.
A fascinating story.

 A lovely little park.
Got to see the fireflies come out and twinkle in the dusk

The killdeer in the YMCA parking lot hatched an egg.
There may be more, but I only saw the one baby.
Do you see the baby killdeer?
The adult is by the tree, and the baby isn't very far away.

Some sort of milestone, I guess.
Turned over another 10 thousand miles on the Whale.

New work desk, who dis?
Moved into another part of the office.
The photo I took in the Okavanga Delta is my desktop picture.

Out on a school night (Thursday) with the band again for a somewhat
last minute gig.

Played for a bike night at a riverside bar.

All of this extra work has been well-timed, because my
debit card had a suspicious charge on it, and so I had to
cancel it and order a new one. Which meant I had to use whatever
cash I had on hand to get me through until the new card arrived.

This sunblock really is the best.
Even after two days swimming in the noon-day sun, I have nary a burn.
I was nearly out actually and have picked up another bottle to get through the summer.
