Yes, I voted. Last week, actually.
Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.
Anyway, it's been a busy October.
Here's the highlights:
I recently saw this movie, and I loved it so much.
The spaghettiest of the spaghetti Westerns, with an
amazing soundtrack.
So I had to track down a DVD copy.
A friend and I took some time to check out the Pride of the Wapsi
Fall Festival days. It has a pumpkin patch, a hayrack ride, lots of games,
and this corn maze that was fun to wander around.
What is this plant? It was growing inside the corn field maze.
I did not buy any pumpkins at the patch, though we did
take the time to walk through it.

In this game, you have to get the golf ball as high up the board as
you can without letting it fall into a lower hole. You guide the
golf ball with the two strings on either side that are connected to the
pumpkin shaped ball holder.
A bit tricky at first, until you get the hang of guiding the ball
between the holes. I got my golf ball all the way to the top.
We played some mini golf at the mini golf pads, bought some apple cider and
apple donuts. Played the baseball throwing game, and some cornhole.
We dressed up this scarecrow.
It's ready for a job interview now, in this snazzy suit jacket.
Talking chicken. It sang a tune.
Real chickens for entertainment.
There were also some goats to hand feed grain.
After a short nap, I had to head out for a gig.
Sitting in with a local band. There was a
game that the rest of the horn section wanted to
watch, so they rigged it up on the stand in front of our music.
Chili season. Cooking up some tastiness.
Road trip!
Off to Detroit, Michigan for the Detroit Free Press
International Half Marathon!
Not our first half marathon, but the first one to require a passport!
Joe Louis statue.
The Fist.
Windsor, Ontario. Just across the river.
The Spirit of Detroit
A quiet street in Detroit.
I like this shot.
The lighting is great.
We could walk from downtown/convention center to the
Motor City Casino Hotel, which is a great hotel.
Parking is free, the bus routes are nearby and it's only
a bit over a mile to walk downtown.
The staff is very helpful and friendly and the rooms are nice and comfortable.
I do recommend.
View from our hotel room.
Motor City Casino Hotel
At the expo, after showing our credentials and getting our race numbers,
I found the seasonal Goodr sunglasses. I had seen them online, but
didn't really want to pay extra for shipping. So I was happy
to see a pair left for me to buy at the expo.
Apparently, they had sold out online.
Appropriate cloth case.
Very kewl.
Spidery.
I wore them the next day at the race.
Waiting for our wave to get the go-ahead.
And we're off!
The Ambassador Bridge.
Into Canada!
Windsor riverfront.
After about three miles, we went into the underwater tunnel
to go back to the US.
Two countries at once!
Ran through customs.
My feet were hurting by the end, but my legs felt okay.
We got our finisher medals and bananas and started the
trek back to the hotel.
Fortunately, we found the shuttle bus to give us a ride
back to the hotel, so we didn't have to walk another
mile.
After a short stop at the hotel to clean off the sweat and change clothes,
we grabbed our passports and got on the Windsor Tunnel Bus to go
back to Canada.
It was a Sunday, so not much was open in Windsor.
We stopped at the Loose Goose for some Canadian delicacies.
A local brew.
Poutine!
I had tried poutine earlier this year while in Whistler.
This poutine was so much better than what I had in Whistler.
The cheese was better, the fries were better and the gravy was tastier.
We shared the poutine and finished the bowl.
The walk guy on the lights is different.
More jaunty than the US hunched walk guy.
Nom Nom Nom
Ooooh Canadaaaaa!
Found a Tim Hortons.
Got some coffee and donuts.
We found the bus stop and got ourselves back into the US,
after successfully getting through customs, both ways.
The car in the hotel.
A long day. Time for some good sleep.
After a relaxing morning, we took a small detour to Hell, Michigan.
Bumper crop
We were early for most things to be open in this tiny, not really
a town. But we were able to shop at the Ice Screamery gift shop
when they opened before we had to be on our way.
The following weekend was the Village Zombie 5K Race.
Got myself all undeaded up.
A Batman-nana, and a couple of zombies.
Benjamin Franklinstein
The undead founding father performed with the rock band
that night in a tiny bar in the tiny Illinois town of Keithsburg.
The ciders I had picked up at the Pride of the Wapsi.
I did not drink them both in one day.
This one was pretty tasty.
Reading a book about a woman who rowed a boat by herself
down the Nile River. It's an interesting look into the Egyptian culture.
Some email security training at work. Yaay.
Happy Halloween!!
Watching Howard the Duck while eating candy apples, drinking pumpkin ale,
and slinging candy at trick or treaters.
Howard the Duck is a wacky movie.
Yum!
Fish Man.
a painting I found in Peoria, IL, but cannot remember the artist name.
Anyone out there help me out?
I was in Peoria for the Barenaked Ladies concert.
My friend had broken her leg, so she could not join me,
and so my Momster used the ticket.
A fun show.
I've loved this band since high school.
Great tunes, good musicianship. They're a Canadian national treasure!
Tried the fufu at the new African place in Davenport.
It was okay. The fufu is the white mass to the left.
The soup/sauce was good though.
Glad I tried something different, but
I may stick to the Ethiopian menu.
Rest of the weekend was sorting through the stuff.
The costume bits were sorted and organized.
Much better.
Costumes clothes; wigs, masks, and accessories; hats.
Grumpy Cat head.
Packing up the decorations for next year.
Damn pumpkin smashers.
Stay off of my lawn!
