Southwest Adventure Part 5

Day 3 - Grand Canyon, Route 66, back to Las Vegas.

Another van ride.
After watching the sunrise over the Mittens in Monument Valley,
we pack up our camp, eat a simple breakfast, and set off again for the last day of our tour.
We make a short stop at Cameron Trading Post for a bit of gift shopping and
take the time to make some sandwiches for our picnic lunch at the
Grand Canyon.

We walked the trail along the South Rim.
It is about 2.5 miles, easy walk.

Don't feed the squirrels!

We eat our sandwiches with a view.
Some people watching and reading the time line
shown in rock samples placed along the trail.

We go back 200 billion years.

The oldest parts of the Zion (the lower layers) are the newest parts (the top layers) of the Grand Canyon. The time scale is mind-boggling!

After some more walking, some ice cream at the visitor center, and a refill of our water bottles, we load up in the van again for another hour and a half to Seligman, Arizona.

Not only serving as a bathroom/refreshment break, Seligman is an important part of Route 66.

Is that Towmater from the Cars movie?!
Actually, I learned that Radiator Springs was inspired by Seligman, AZ.
Git r done.

Back into the van, for the last time, and we drive the remaining hour and a half into Vegas.

We say goodbye to our travel mates, thank our tour guide, and go our separate ways. Our flight is early the next morning, so that gives us the night in Circus Circus, playing a few games on the Midway, eating pretzels.

All total, we drove about 1000 miles, visited 3 National Parks, and spent two nights in tents.

This kind of tour is great for those who can tolerate being a bit uncomfortable for a while, and who likes to pack a lot into their days. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, check out the tours offered by Bindlestiff.

Thanks for sticking with me this far!
See you soon!
