Now that I got the mini-getaways out of the way, I
can focus more on what's going on in the homestead.
The snow boots are flowering.
Took the Whale through the car wash.
Scrub a dub dub.
Finally got around to using the cuttlefish ink I've had in the cupboard for way too long.
Cooked up some linguini, sautéed tomatoes and garlic, and mixed them all together
with far too much ink. Really, I don't think I needed to use as much as I did.
Lesson learned.
The result has a bit of a briny flavour, but not overpowering.
It looks scary, but doesn't taste scary.
And no cuttlefish scurrying around the kitchen.
Which is unfortunate, because I like cuttlefish.
Cephalopods are neat.
Hanging out with Zuri. She took a minute to rest her little eyes.
Isn't that an Eddie Money song?
🎵 I've got two chickens with parrot eyes! 🎶
Went out on a school night to see the Red Hot Chili Pipers.
A bagpipe rock band!
Glad to see I was not disappointed in the kilt department.
Everyone's a critic.
Got the second laptop fired up and used it to edit the latest
YouTube video.
You will find my channel under the same handle as this blog.
If you're looking for a channel that doesn't upload on any sort of predictable
schedule, and has no cohesive theme or niche, it's the channel for you!
More linguini.
Sans squid ink this time.
There's something gratifying about making your lunch from scratch.
The best dessert. At least the past couple weeks.
Blackberries, whipped cream, drizzled with honey.
Simple and super tasty.
Ran out of truffle oil, because I've been using it on my
avocado toast breakfasts a lot lately. So I took to the
Interwebs to find more.
A company called Healthy Italia had what I was looking for.
And also running a sale on a few other delicacies.
Items were shipped fairly quickly, well packaged,
and included a complimentary balsamic vinegar sample.
I used the tomatoes in the first jar on some avocado toast,
with crumbled goat cheese. Yumm!
I tried pho for the first time.
It is a Vietnamese soup dish, with fragrant broth and noodles.
And lots of garnish.
Remember how I said I think Thai food is made of garnishes?
Well, pho kind of is too.
It was good though, except I think I added too much of the
chili oil. Really clears the sinuses.
Caught Sammi chillin on her platform.
She looks very relaxed.
Sunday afternoon gig.
Sitting in with another band.
Gotta keep up my rawk chops.
So I realize this is the year of pay-down-debt-or-else,
but I opened the vault a tiny bit for this amazing Juara skincare.
And I think the packers accidentally doubled my order,
because I received some extra. Still, this stuff is so good
and smells delicious.
After years of avoiding doctors (except for the doctor at
the Maun hospital after the vehicle wreck in Botswana) I reluctantly made
an appointment to see a doctor that didn't specialize in eyeballs and
got all sorts of tests done.
The usual women's check up stuff and was then sent to a lab
to have way more blood than I expected taken from my arm.
The tests came back with generally normal/negative results.
No weird diseases, no suspicious looking cells, and reasonably
good bloodwork.
Some high cholesterol and low Vitamin D plagues my veins though.
The doctor suggested some Vitamin D supplements and watch my
diet to keep the cholesterol in check.
A shot of D.
Actually doesn't taste too awful.
Then the big project.
I'd already gotten the paint earlier this year, and finally had
a relatively boring weekend to tackle repainting the office.
Before pics. I'm drowning in a sea of flipper grey walls.
I'd already repainted the bathroom and felt happy with the result,
so now it was time to take on this room.
It was a project.
Day one spent covering one side, then
Sunday was spent painting the other side.
This was partially done because this is a small room,
and by splitting the job, I was able to shuffle around the furniture to make room
to reach the whole wall.
good bye grey.
Took a break to use up the leftover applesauce to
bake up this yummy quick bread. Painting fuel.
Okay, back to work.
Still moving everything back in, but this is the result of two days' hard work.
Warmer and brighter and no more grey.
A Zinnsser Smart Coat eggshell finish in Sandstone Tint.
Debating whether or not to repaint the dining room.
Or the kitchen.
Maybe one room can keep the grey.
And, as long as I had all the stuff out and was in a painterly mood,
I took the gallon of blue paint upstairs and painted another column.
Two years ago, if you remember that long ago, I painted the large
cement column on the right. It's the chimney column, and solid cement,
so I can't really do much with it but paint it.
I like how it broke up the ever-present grey, and so decided
to use the same paint to fill in the other column over the stairs.
Adds some more definition, I think.
And, as mentioned before, there's a chance I'll take a paint roller
to this space too someday and cover the grey.
