Sitting here at my desk, eating a delicious pear drizzled
with honey. Better than any candy. 😋
I shared a few bites of pear with Zuri and she loves it too.
It's been a bit of a rough week.
The winter blues hitting hard.
But, oh well. That's life.
Got through the last of the fall pumpkin stuff.
This pumpkin ale is pretty good.
And, after eating a whole box of pumpkin spice oatmeal, I've decided
that oatmeal isn't my favorite thing.
At least not without adding nuts and brown sugar to it.
Also, I sliced my finger with a knife while cutting food in the
kitchen, so have had do deal with a bandage all week.
I will probably survive.
For my birthday, one of my friends gave me this paint by number kit
from someone at the farmer's market.
To drag myself out of my funk, I decided to paint it.
It's therapeutic at least.
The completed picture.
Giraffes on the veldt.
It is interesting that I expected the purple paint to be black.
But I followed the numbers, what can ya do?
It dried a bit darker, so has a nice effect.
I might take it to work and put it on the wall by my desk.
My pumpkin family is drooping.
I had to take the big guy from the front porch before it got too mushy to move.
Going to let nature run its course. If I get another patch next year, that's okay.
But I'm not going to force it.
These damn tree cakes.
I shouldn't eat them. At all. But I bought a couple boxes and have
been snacking on them when I need a sugar fix. Not every day though.
Tis the season to eat too many tree cakes.
Speaking of food, I had picked up some smoked gouda and used it
for an easy dinner one night after a long day dealing with work and the cold.
A mini naan with hummus, a few slices of smoked gouda, and two fried eggs.
Tasty, easy and quick.
In the future, I think I'll let the cheese melt a bit, then top with eggs.
Quick movie recommendation:
Rare Exports
A black comedy holiday movie from Finland with a wonderful twist.
I'd heard about it a year or so ago, but couldn't find it anywhere to watch.
It's currently on Tubi, so I could stream it for free.
There are subtitles, so you have to pay attention, but it's a
fun Santa flick.
I followed that movie with Last Holiday, with Queen Latifah. Cute movie.
Ice storm forced me into a quiet Saturday morning at home.
The students decided to cancel or reschedule and my only activity was
pushed back an hour. So I made some coffee, washed the dishes, and
worked on some house business.
I de-iced the Whale, slurped some soup, and headed out into the
now mostly just rain and melting ice to get to Clarinet Christmas.
Clarinet Christmas is just like Saxophone Christmas,
only with clarinets.
About half of the registered clarinet players managed to make it in
due to treacherous travel conditions, so it was a smaller group than expected.
But it went well and after the performance, the drive home was much less icy.
It was a good reminder to me to start reviewing my clarinet reeds a bit more,
to have one or two ready for a performance.
Seen here with Sue, the organizer and director of Clarinet Christmas.
I will wear my clarinet Xmas t-shirt tomorrow. This year is a
cute nutcracker-with-clarinet design.
And, though I looked for it, I couldn't find the sugar mixture for hot buttered rum.
I did find this Oat Nog. Thought it was worth a try.
As should be clear by now, I don't eat or drink too much dairy anymore.
I'll eat ice cream sometimes, low sugar yogurt, and cheese, and will use half & half cream
if that's what's available, but when given a choice I tend to select the
oat or almond options. The Chobani oat milks are the best for my taste.
Incidentally, I really like the low-sugar Chobani yogurts, too. I eat them for lunch.
I'll try another shop for the rum mix.
Spent Sunday sleeping in, drinking coffee, putting away all of the T-shirts from
the T-shirt project, a bit of gift shopping, some laundry to wash sheets and socks,
and wrapped some gifts, seen here under the Xmas Cactus.
Eleven days until Christmas. I might have a few more nutcrackers up my sleeve.
🎄🎅🎵
