Kentucky Horse Weekend

Over the weekend of May 18-20, the Momster and I took a road trip to Lexington to run the Horsecapital (half) Marathon. We took a few detours along the way.

We took a short detour outside of St. Louis to visit the Cahokia Mounds. In the interest of time, we only managed to get to the top of Monks Mound.

It was raining. It rained for most of the first two days of this trip.
So it goes.

Then we drove into Lexington, KY.

Race start! Let's do this!

It rained a bit, but I still finished close to my usual time, even with the stops to film/take pictures.

You're in horse country, boy.

That's what she said!

Then we drove a couple of hours to Mammoth Cave. Mammoth Cave is enormous and we had time to see a teensy, tiny little piece of it. We took the Domes and Dripstones Tour. After a bus ride to the entrance, we took about 250 stairs through narrow passages to about 300 feet below the surface.

Dormant stalactites. No water seeping through the shale and sandstone above this section of the cave, so these stalactites don't grow. Of course, that may change at any time.

The greeter at Dinosaur World.

Had a bit of time to walk a trail. It rained. A lot.

Despite the rain, we made it to the bottom of this trail to see this beautiful water outlet.

Resulting waterfalls from the rain.

We've been in Kentucky too long.

A short drive into Louisville to see the Downs and visit the Kentucky Derby Museum.

It was a long time in the car, and it rained a lot, but we had a good race and made it to everything we wanted to see.

I also made a vlog about this weekend.

This is my first vlog.

Watch at your own peril.

Keep it real, Antelopes!
