Happy Halloween to you and yours!
It was a pretty good month and a half for festive activities.
Got the annual ration for candy corn and mellowcrème pumpkins.
One bag and I'm good for the rest of the year.
Saw the ol ROY G BIV one morning.
Meal prepped like a boss.
Lots of fresh veggies from the farmers market.
And, if you return proofs of purchase to the Bobo's oat bites company, you
will receive a free oven mitt in the mail!
My parrot oven mitt got burned on the stove (ironic, yes) so
I needed a new one anyway. It's a fairly nice mitt.
Comfy and well-made.
Rennaissance Fairyryryeyey fun.
Picked up this cute little crocheted shrunken head.
Shot some targets at the archery range, and learned to throw a spear at the Viking village.
I hit the Elk target twice!
Woohoo!
The little garden had some old friends trying to climb out of it.
Caught a screening of the classic Night of the Living Dead on the
rooftop of the nearby downtown theatre.
Been a long time since I've watched this film.
It holds up well over time.
Some gore and a tragic ending.
What more do you need?!
Spent some time going through the spice cupboard.
Season your food.
Bland is boring.
Threw out some of the old stuff, made note of what I have,
bought a few fresh jars of stuff I use a lot.
Found this cat head at Goodwill.
Best $9 spent this month!
Alejandro earned his wings.
I really don't have much interest in whatever the "influencers"
are going on about, but I found a bunch of this Witch's Brew Alani Nu at Target
and so picked up a couple of cans to give it a taste test.
It's okay. Kinda sugary for my tastes.
Tastes like those caramel apple suckers.
I'd tried this Alani Nu stuff years ago, before it got
super popular and wasn't that impressed with it then.
But I'll try anything once.
Costume test #1
Yikes.
This is what I'd look like as a goblin.
Hit up the craft store, dug out my glue gun,
and got to crafting some Mothman eyeballs.
I wanted larger red eyes than what I could find otherwise.
I didn't like the red glasses, and the glow glasses weren't big enough.
So, I cut in half a foam sphere, spray painted it to death with red paint,
glued felt scraps onto the back for comfort, and wired the half-spheres onto the
antenna headband. Didn't take too long, which was good
because I started this project entirely too late in the game.
But I did manage to have it finished in time to wear at the
Halloween race in Eureka, MO. Road trip!
Costume test #2
It's better.
Inspiration.
Gummy fangs.
Yum.
Road trip!
Costume test #3
Better still.
The race version of the costume.
Hard to run in a head sock, so for the Eureka, MO 10K
Halloween race, I modified the outfit a bit.
Wings and the headpiece.
Mothman 5K t-shirt. All back pants and long-sleeved shirt.
Ready to run!
The route took us out into the fields, then back through town.
Had to waste a few minutes trying to get some spooky silhouette photos.
A few people knew who I was supposed to be, so that was fun.
And, after crossing the finish line, I was just in time to join the costume contest.
And I won 2nd place in the 10K contest!
Awesome!
Except for the running shoes, this is the effect I was going for.
I would get another chance to be Mothman, so I didn't hang up the wings right away.
A book I'd preordered arrived in the mail.
Photo collections by Frank Ockenfels 3 and David Bowie.
Lots of great photos, many of Bowie in his later incarnations.
1990s Bowie is one of the best eras.
After another boring week at werk, I was ready for another road race.
Momster, Marsha, and I got ourselves dressed and ready for the 4th annual
Village Zombie 5K.
We look good.
It's become tradition to wear the half skull face mask, so I wore it
under the shark suit. Zombie shark? Killer shark?
I haven't been a shark in a while, so I thought I'd pull it out of the
costume box and take it for a spin.
Then it was time to put together the Mothman costume for a second time
and hit the dancefloor at a local Halloween Ball.
Traded the running gear for some more polished black clothes, a
black turtleneck to cover my skin completely and added the claw gloves and head sock.
Slurpin on a special cocktail.
Had to take advantage of the location for some action Mothman shots.
This is more or less what I was going for.
Found a pair of glowing eyeglasses for the glow effect.
Live, laugh, lurk.
Trying not to trip down the steep steps in the head sock.
The wings a pair of crappy wings I found at Goodwill covered by
a mothwing cape I found on Amazon.
I wanted the wings to have shape and structure, so just
the cape wouldn't do. The wings below were easy enough to
manipulate to give me the shape I wanted.
And, it was comfortable. Light enough to wear at the
Eureka race, and easy on the shoulders for a whole night
at the ball.
Have you hugged a Mothman today?
Don't you think you should?
Also, would you believe there was another person at the ball
dressed as Mothman?! I was stunned!
I had figured my costume was obscure enough that people would
know what it was but maybe not be moved to make a costume out of it.
The other Mothman costume was really good though.
I was impressed with her wings and face mask with glowing eyes.
After some cocktails and boogying down on the dancefloor,
my friend (a Renaissance style witch) and I made our way back home.
Got through some smaller books in the to be read stack,
and go to this one. A biography of the renowned Russian
ballet star, Mikhail Barishnakov. He's been mentioned in a lot
of the ballet biographies and history books I've read, and after watching
his movie with tap dancer Gregory Hines, (White Nights) I looked up
a biography about him. He's had an interesting life.
Attended a nature walk run by the Davenport Parks and Rec.
Learned about some of the prairie grasses, plants and trees at a local park.
I'm not too good with plants, so I thought it would be a nice way to learn.
The fall winds are blowing away the summer breezes. Brrr.
Fine, I'll go to work on Halloween.
But I'm gonna wear the cat head.
Bossman gave us pizza for lunch on Halloween day.
This is an elote pizza from a food truck. Not too bad.
And, as a holiday treat, I got this annoyingly expensive fancy coffee drink.
This is a cold brew with a cold pumpkin foam. With a splash of oat milk.
It was good, but I can't get one of these everyday.
Ready for the trick or treaters!
Snacking on cider and a caramel apple from Lagomarcino's, watching
scary movies, handing out candy from a bucket.
Good night!
Another hike through the woods at mid-day.
Not as cold this time, and with a good friend to take in the nice weather.
And then it was time for the 50% off sale at the Spirit Halloween store.
The best time to snag a deal on a costume or decoration piece.
From the inventory they had left, anyway.
heck, yeah.
I am the Yeti.
Coo coo ca choo.
