Waiting is the hardest part

The month of waiting.
Waiting to get paid, waiting for the muffins to bake, waiting
at the car shop for the repairs to get done, again.
Waiting for the Monday of the calendar year to finally click over to
the next month so that we may all try to go on with our lives.

Finally got the new laptop set up. The closed one on the left.
Now both new computers are ready to use.
With Tiny Dave to keep an eye on everything.

Getting through all of the holiday themed goodies.
Last of the gingerbread cookies.
Taking a dip in my yogurt at lunch.

Happy birthday to my Daves!
David Bowie on January 8, and Dave Matthews on January 9.
Bowie has my mind, Dave has my heart.

Showing up fashionably late is Snoop on a Stoop.
Kinda cute.
He'll be ready for next Christmas!

the only elf on a shelf I will tolerate in this house.

I've been doing some cooking lately, so have been looking through the
aisles of the grocery store for things that aren't usually on my shopping list.
While in Aldi, I noticed these Urban Decay-esque eyeshadow palettes.
I own a couple Urban Decay palettes, so I picked up some of the
knock offs to compare them. The Aldi version is about $6.00.

Surprisingly, the Aldi palettes are pretty good.
Similar packaging, similar colour schemes.
And, after testing the Aldi shades, they seem to be okay.
Fairly good coverage and colour.
I'd have to compare formulations to know for sure, but
for under $10.00 it's a decent eyeshadow collection.
At least good enough for general, everyday use.

Wanted to use the rest of my lentils, so I found a good recipe and
cooked up a veggie lentil stew.
Ingredients for this one are basic and cheap, but cook up to
a very tasty soup.

Yumm, lentil goodness.

Continuing the effort to use up the stuff in the fridge, I made
crab cakes with leftover crab flakes.
While not perfect, they were edible and not as difficult to make as I thought.

Here's a flashback.
Had to fire up the ol' Zoom and web camera for a meeting.
Learned how to do an email blast using templates.
Always keep learning.

To use up the bunch of oranges from the band froot box, I pulled out the citrus juicer
and spent an hour squeezing oranges.

The result.
Two bottles and half a glass of juice.
No additives or extra sugar.
Will be nice to sip on this week.

Get your Vitamin C!

Got out the baking supplies, as I tend to do
once or twice a year.

I wanted to use some of the orange pulp that came out the juicer.
So I looked up a muffin recipe that uses orange pulp.
I had most of the ingredients already, and the stuff I needed
to get was cheap, so this turned out to be another inexpensive snack.

A portion of my spice collection.
Season your food.

Less than an hour later, I am rewarded with muffins!

No extra sugar in this recipe, so I will add some extra honey
to drizzle over them, but they will make a good breakfast this week.

Yes, I have read a lot of books about David Bowie.
But this one has been on my shelf for years, and I am
finally getting around to reading it.
It's also one of the longest and most comprehensive bios about Bowie.
He is my strange fascination.

And, finally, on one of the coldest days of the year, I returned home after a Sunday
morning of swimming at the YMCA and laundry at the laundromat, to
find my little turtle warming herself under the lamp.
Stretching out to soak up all the warmth.

Dreaming of warmer days ahead.
